The YOUTH GREEN COMPASS European Initiative Starts

by FCV | Dec 5, 2024 | News and experiences! | 0 comments

At the Fundació Catalunya Voluntària we are happy to present the ‘Youth Green Compass’ project, carried out with the support of the ‘European Youth Together’ program of the European Commission to encourage young people to participate in ecological initiatives with a direct impact on the improvement of their environment in a context where more than 2/3 of young people recognize that their lifestyle habits are unsustainable and where an even largest percentage is worried about climate emergency.

Recognizing this is an important step, but not enough; likewise, worrying is useless if not followed by actions. Hence this two-year project is dedicated to raising awareness about the need to change habits and make better decisions, thinking about the environment and its relationship with health, well-being, and urban sustainability.

The initiative is promoted by 5 non-profit and non-governmental organizations from 5 countries, which will create new educational materials to strengthen environmental awareness, as well as build new spaces for debate and reflection among leaders, young people, and policy-makers, with the ultimate goal of solving challenges that are not only environmental but also social, health, educational and public space use problems, by holding debates, training, advocacy actions, interventions in public and a large list of participatory activities.

The FCV is responsible for organizing the actions that will take place within the framework of the European Green Week, in Kaunas, Vienna, Paris, Barcelona, and an Italian city, in October 2025, as well as the mid-term evaluation meeting, which will take place in the province of Barcelona at the end of 2025, with the project management team, which will meet in Kaunas at the end of January 2025 for the first time.

The project, coordinated by the Lithuanian NGO Mano Europa, is carried out in partnership with EuroPiamo (Italy), Solution Solidarité & Inclusion, (France), and Zentrum for Innovative Bildung (Austria).
