On the 11th of July, the Spanish Team formed by the powerful Anna, Pol, Meritxell and Pedro went to Katowice to experience a youth exchange “There is no planet B”. A project that shaped our brains and made us realise that there are lots of things we can all do to be active citizens.
In the current era, the most developed countries are the ones that are trying their best to implement policies of zero waste. At the same time, these types of countries are the ones that have the most polluted atmosphere because their economy is based on capitalism.
In this context, and thanks to the exchange we have done, we realise that it is on us if the world goes to better or to worse. There are little things we can all do to foster the principles of refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle. Here are some examples: we can all share social media content about how to treat the world; we can also create our own compost or salvage the “waste” from the containers of the big supermarkets to become freegans and we all can choose more environmentally friendly transportation.
These are just a few things we learned from our youth exchange and that we will put into practice on a day to day basis.
Apart from all the “theory” based on non-formal education and good practices that they taught us, we also had lots of practical activities.
Among them we can find a visit to the museum located where the old mine factory used to be. We also had the opportunity to discover how a landfill works.
All in all, the project we participated in made significant changes to our lives. We are much more curious about how to support environmental practices. We also had the option to live with people from all around Europe which made us realize how environmentally friendly each country is.
