On 1 July, I joined FCV as an ESC volunteer after completing my internship with the organisation. In this article, I share my first impressions of this new chapter, how I have felt since day one, and why this experience is contributing to both my personal and professional growth.

If I had to describe the beginning of my volunteering adventure at FCV in a single word, it would undoubtedly be welcoming. After my internship experience, I have no doubt that the people who make up the FCV team are incredible, with great ideas and an enormous capacity to convey them through all the actions they carry out. From the very first moment, I knew I wanted to be part of this team: a place where my voice is heard, my ideas are valued, and, moreover, where they help me bring them to life thanks to their experience.

I chose FCV because, in addition to being an organization open to young people without experience and to volunteers, it's a space that allows you to learn both theoretically and practically. They include you in the projects you choose and do everything possible to make you feel comfortable from the start. I studied Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Barcelona, and in fact, I hope to continue expanding on everything I started learning during my internship at FCV. I also want to demonstrate that I am capable of applying the tools they have given me and, at the same time, enjoy the process alongside my colleagues.

My personal and professional goals are very much aligned because I feel I'm at a stage in my life where I'm still discovering who I am. I believe that by doing what I truly love, I can get to know myself better. On a personal level, I'd like to learn more languages so I can communicate with people from different countries and cultures because, as a teacher once told me, knowing a language is one of the most valuable things we can have. I'd also like to be braver. If an incredible opportunity arises to visit another country, even if it means stepping outside my comfort zone, I want to be able to seize it, because I believe that experiences in the field of education and cultural exchange are truly enriching.

For me, FCV represents commitment, mission, activism, cooperation, and vision. These are values I identify with and that closely resemble the person I aspire to be and continue to be. That's why I'm so excited to contribute my efforts to ensure these values continue and reach more people.

Going back to my first experiences at FCV, I remember one that, although it might seem like a minor detail, made a big impression on me. One of the first concepts I learned was that of a safe space and how small gestures can make strangers feel comfortable and included. The first day I arrived, Zaklina invited me for coffee. Such a simple gesture made all my nerves disappear and made me feel welcome from the very first moment. Without realizing it, that was my first lesson at FCV.

The truth is, these first few days have been very pleasant and are confirming that this is a place where I like to be and continue learning. When this project ends, I would like to continue my professional development with the FCV team, keep growing with them, and contribute in any way I can.
