In the springtime, from April 24th to May 3rd, the Fundació Catalunya Voluntària is hosting at Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) the practical training experience ‘The Language of the Sustainable Future: Foreign Language in Support of Ecological Innovations’. Sixteen students, accompanied by two teachers and the director of the ‘Dr. Petar Beron’ Language School in Kyustendil, a village in the rural region of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, near the border with North Macedonia and Greece, will participate in a program full of engaging and creative activities.
These activities, developed in collaboration with various local organizations and groups, aim to help them discover sustainable practices and initiatives and improve key skills such as initiative, teamwork, green thinking, and environmental resilience.
The group will have the opportunity to practice their English, learn some Catalan and Spanish, and, above all, participate in educational and awareness-raising activities that highlight the value of nature as a source of life, inspiration, and learning.
The group will have the opportunity to interact with people who work with young people, teachers, educators, volunteers, and activists from the county. They will enjoy outdoor learning and creative activities over eight days in various locations around the city, including the beach, the Ortoll forest, the seaside neighborhood, and an urban garden on the outskirts of the city.
As this is a non-formal educational activity, the activities will rely on experience, communication, and peer exchange, so that the group can gain new perspectives and understand that action, reflection, and dialogue with other young people are invaluable sources of learning. The group will also participate in classes at a public high school and a center that uses alternative educational methods.
We plan to dedicate one day to visiting Barcelona and one afternoon to exploring Sitges, taking on the challenge of using the intercity trains.
This activity is a learning mobility program supported by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ program, resulting from a partnership agreement with the school and the NGO ‘Centre of European Initiatives Stara Zagora’, an organization with which FCV has collaborated for over five years.
