We are pleased to share the results of the evaluation forms completed by participants in the international seminar ‘The Power of Human Intelligence,’ an activity organized by the Fundació Catalunya Voluntària (FCV). It is the result of a partnership with non-profit and non-governmental organizations and an informal network of young people from 10 countries (Germany, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, North Macedonia, Poland, Spain, and Turkey), which was made possible thanks to the support of the European Commission’s Erasmus+ program.
The FCV has a practice of valuing elements that are not easy to identify but which, for the FCV, are the most important: level of satisfaction, group atmosphere, participation in activities, achievement of objectives, and development of key skills and attitudes. These competencies are integral to the activity, and their improvement and development are also part of the final evaluation. Thus, in this activity, dedicated to the capabilities of Human Intelligence (and AI), we prioritized empathy, initiative, self-awareness, and digital skills.
According to the evaluation forms, completed anonymously and in writing on the last day, the seminar activities served to develop these skills in a remarkable-excellent way, with scores ranging from 8.86 (empathy) to 9.34 (self-awareness), the average score of the 4 being 9 out of 10 (!).
At FCV, we use a non-formal, intercultural methodology centered on experience, which encourages each participant to take a more active role in achieving the objectives. When asked about the degree to which these objectives were met, the average evaluation score was also excellent, ranging from 9.05 to 9.45, with an overall average score of 9.24 (!), exceeding our highest expectations. Here are the seven objectives of the activity and the average evaluation score:
- To understand the areas and tasks in which Human Intelligence differs from AI when working with young people, and to identify the comparative advantages that HI currently offers. Average score: 9.05.
- To use HI when using AI (or to learn to use AI intelligently and from a human perspective). Average score: 9.16.
- To understand the limitations and risks of using AI when working with young people. Average score: 9.45.
- To recognize and value Human Intelligence (HI) as a set of skills and attitudes (thinking, problem-solving) that those working with young people and young people themselves can improve through various activities. Average score: 9.21.
- To generate collective knowledge that can serve as an operational guide for using both HI and AI in a complementary way, leveraging their full potential. Average score: 9.33.
Such positive results encourage us to continue investing in non-formal and intercultural methodologies when organizing training activities for NGO leaders and youth workers.
