From the 12th to the 19th of December 2015, Fundació Catalunya Voluntària hosted the latest training course of the Peace Bag for EuroMed Youth network in the seaside town of Vilanova i la Geltrú, 45 km south of Barcelona.
The capacity building activity ‘Volunteering for Peace’ aims to promote peace building, conflict transformation and intercultural learning in youth work. 21 representatives of organizations from 10 different countries in the European and Mediterranean region attended this event.
Key amongst the objectives of this training course is the development and promotion of the abilities of the participating organizations to fully realize the potential of the European Voluntary Service (EVS) as a key instrument in their work to promote volunteering in the region and reinforce the network.
The participants in the week-long course also had the opportunity to hear from experts and share their own experiences on topics such as the implementation of awareness campaigns, the organization of workshops and discussions, the creation of new resources and products. It also increased their capacities to encourage other young people and NGOs to participate in new initiatives of peace building by offering clear learning incentives, and by increasing the quality of the support and mentoring system available.
This meeting brought a diverse selection of experiences and viewpoints to the table with participants from Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Holland, United Kingdom and Spain all set to take part.
The project took place with the support of the Erasmus+ program of the European Commission and of the Spanish National Agency.
