In 2015 I had the opportunity to participate in the European Voluntary Service in the framework of the Erasmus+ program as a short-term volunteer for two months, July and August.
The cultural project, which was called “MultiKulti” and was organized by the hosting and coordinating organization Stowarzyszenie POLITES consisted in giving playful, educational and social support to children between 6 and 13 years old during the summer holidays. There were 10 of us volunteers, from various European countries. Each volunteer was responsible for about 10 children. We had to organize games typical of each country, as well as work in a meal centre, helping the children that were participating.
It was a very enriching experience because I met many young people from countries such as Portugal, Romania, Italy, Hungary and Spain, who became friends with whom I worked a lot and created a very positive and intensive relation. Both the coordinating team and the volunteers were people very committed to the work they carry out. I also want to underline how organized was the country that hosted us and highlight how gratifying it was working with children.
For all of these reasons I recommend all young people to participate in this kind of projects, they are really amazing!
