An EVS can be the best experience of your life. I was sure of it when, two years ago, I discovered what the EVS was. I remember that when I found out what it was about, I was very excited at the idea to start and find a project and I knew I could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live in another country, discover a new culture and be able to use my time for a good cause.
When I wrote my first application I didn’t know I would have to wait so long in order to start my EVS and, in the end, they were 17 months of waiting and being patient. But it was worth it, it was worth it because thanks to this EVS I could meet incredible people, I could find out new things about a new culture, improve my English, learn a new language, visit amazing places, live in a new country as a local, rather than a tourist, help other people and live unique experiences.
Just like any other new experience, during the EVS there can be some difficult moments, but it’s all part of the adventure and with the right attitude you can solve almost anything. This is why, after living in Sweden for 6 months and having reached the midpoint of my project, not only do I recommend doing an EVS, but I also think is totally necessary to anyone. Because I was sure, and I still am: an EVS can be the best experience of your life.
