We have to live in a society strongly marked by the power the media and social networks have with the support of digital technologies, a power before which the FCV proposes to reinforce two competences that we consider absolutely critical: thinking and media literacy competences, so that critical thinking and critical reading of the media serve as the first defense barrier against this power, and help us not only to identify false news, hate speech and violence (which, by appealing to the lowest feelings and passions, favor confrontation and discrimination), but also to prevent their spread by actively fighting against them.
Although critical thinking and media literacy skills have the power to fight against these real dangers, and the lack of opportunities to improve these skills, whether through formal or non-formal training, that motivates us to take carry out this initiative. Since the absence of these competences can be found at the root of many conflicts that people and communities face, generating hatred and violence, elements that must be fought decisively, not only from education, but also, in our opinion, from the same civil society organizations.
The raison d’être of the initiative is to create interest in the value of both competences and to create new activities and resources, so that the youth organizations can introduce them into their repertoire, using them as a valid strategy to construct messages and non-discriminatory narratives , as well as to promote a well-informed and thoughtful kind of participation and, therefore, a more responsible citizenship.
The project consists of the creation of educational and promotion/awareness activities focused on both competences, using a non-formal and intercultural learning methodology for their development. For this reason we are creating an informal group of practitioners that wants to help us in the design and implementation of activities (workshops, debates, street actions, forums, performance, etc.).
The activity has the support of the Barcelona City Council and the Erasmus + program of the European Commission.
Here you can see the video presenting the project.
If you are interested in being part of this group and collaborating in the initiative, you are over 18 years old and live in Barcelona, you are part of a youth organization, we recommend that you fill out this form. We will contact you very soon for a brief informative session.
