We are Ana, Angie, Cris, Marta and Rosa. Here we tell you about our experience participating in a youth exchange thanks to Fundació Catalunya Voluntària.
In August 2022 we had the opportunity to travel to Amarante (Portugal) to participate in a youth exchange entitled “Huge minority: fight against discrimination! For 9 days we lived and learned with people from Portugal, France, Slovenia, Romania, Turkey, Italy and Poland. The exchange took place at the Casa da Juventude de Amarante, and we were able to stay in the same building.
The main theme that occupied us during the stay was the fight against minority discrimination. However, during the trip, we also enjoyed some free time, discovered different places of Amarante and visited Porto.
Most of us who participated in the exchange didn’t know anyone when we signed up, but the project allowed us to have a great time and make new friends. We learned a lot of things from each other, not only about the topic of the exchange but also about the cultures and traditions of different countries. During the project, we mainly spoke English, although some participants also understood Spanish.
In conclusion, we believe that participating in these projects is a very enjoyable and recommendable experience. We have returned to Catalonia with a suitcase full of new learnings and friendships of different ages and countries.
We also appreciate the support we have always received from Fundació Catalunya Voluntària and the project organiser, Aventura Marão Clube. Whenever we have had doubts or difficulties, they have always helped us very quickly.
We are very happy and grateful to have been able to participate in this project!
